Screening for Plagiarism

Screening for Plagiarism Policy of AI and Developmental Insights in Education (AIDIE)

AI and Developmental Insights in Education (AIDIE) is committed to ensuring the originality and academic integrity of all submitted manuscripts. To uphold ethical publishing standards and protect the intellectual property of authors, the journal implements a rigorous plagiarism screening process for all submissions.

1. Plagiarism Definition

Plagiarism is the practice of using someone else's ideas, words, or work without proper acknowledgment or authorization. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim from another source without citation.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Republishing one's previously published work without proper citation or significant modifications.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Using phrases or ideas from various sources without proper attribution.
  • Improper Paraphrasing: Rewording someone else's work too closely while failing to provide appropriate references.
  • Data Fabrication and Falsification: Presenting manipulated or fabricated data as original findings.

2. Plagiarism Screening Process

Pre-Review Plagiarism Check

  • Upon submission, manuscripts are screened using reliable plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or Grammarly Plagiarism Checker.
  • Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% (excluding references and common terms) may be returned to authors for revision or rejected outright.
  • The editorial team reviews flagged content manually to assess whether similarities are appropriately cited.

Post-Revision Plagiarism Check

  • After peer review and before final acceptance, a secondary plagiarism screening is conducted to ensure that revised content adheres to originality requirements.
  • Authors must ensure that any changes made during revisions do not introduce new instances of plagiarism.

Final Plagiarism Screening Before Publication

  • A final check is conducted prior to online publication to confirm the manuscript's compliance with plagiarism policies.
  • Any detected issues at this stage may result in retraction or delay of publication.

3. Acceptable Similarity Thresholds

Similarity Index (%) Action Required
0 - 20% Accepted with standard review procedures.
21 - 40% Requires revision and proper citation of flagged sections.
> 40% Immediate rejection; authors advised to rewrite and resubmit.

4. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work by:

  • Properly citing and referencing all sources used.
  • Avoiding extensive verbatim text and using their own words to summarize existing research.
  • Providing proper attribution when reusing previously published work.
  • Disclosing any overlap with their prior publications in the submission cover letter.

5. Consequences of Plagiarism

  • Before Acceptance: The manuscript may be rejected, and authors may be requested to revise or provide clarifications.
  • After Acceptance but Before Publication: The article will be put on hold or rejected, and the authors may be blacklisted from future submissions.
  • After Publication: If plagiarism is discovered post-publication, the article will be formally retracted with a public notice, and relevant institutions may be notified.

6. Retraction Policy for Plagiarized Content

AIDIE follows the COPE Retraction Guidelines, and if a published article is found to contain plagiarized content, it will be retracted with the following actions:

  • A retraction notice will be issued on the journal’s website and linked to the article’s DOI.
  • The reason for retraction will be clearly stated in the notice.
  • The authors’ institutions and relevant bodies will be informed.

7. Use of Generative AI and Plagiarism Risks

With the increasing use of Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Bard, authors must exercise caution in ensuring that:

  • AI-generated content is reviewed and verified by the authors.
  • Proper citations are provided if AI-assisted content is used for reference.
  • Authors disclose any AI assistance in the manuscript to maintain transparency.
  • AI is not used to fabricate or misrepresent findings.

Manuscripts found to contain undisclosed AI-generated content will be subject to rejection or retraction.

8. Editorial Rights and Appeals

The editorial team reserves the right to:

  • Reject manuscripts that fail to meet plagiarism standards.
  • Request supporting documentation for verification of originality.
  • Consider appeals from authors if they believe a false positive plagiarism result has occurred.

Authors wishing to appeal plagiarism decisions should submit a formal request with justifications to foundae.aidie@gmail.com .

9. Self-Checking Recommendations for Authors

Before submission, authors are encouraged to:

  • Use plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin or Grammarly to self-check their manuscript.
  • Verify all citations and ensure proper paraphrasing techniques.
  • Review their work for any unintentional overlap with previously published materials.
