Correction and Retraction

Correction and Retraction

The Journal of Geothermal Research and Volcanology (JoGRaV) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. In cases where errors or ethical concerns are identified in published articles, JoGRaV follows recognized international publishing standards and applies the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Corrections

JoGRaV will publish a Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum) when an article contains an error that affects the clarity, accuracy, or interpretation of the work but does not invalidate the main findings. Corrections may be issued for:

  • Minor factual errors

  • Errors in figures, tables, or captions

  • Typographical mistakes affecting meaning

  • Author affiliation or contact information errors

  • Incorrect citations or reference details

Corrections will be published as a separate notice linked to the original article. The original article will remain accessible, and the correction notice will clearly describe what has been amended.

Retractions

A Retraction will be issued when the published work is found to be unreliable, unethical, or seriously flawed. Retractions may occur due to:

  • Proven plagiarism or self-plagiarism

  • Data fabrication or falsification

  • Serious methodological or analytical errors that invalidate conclusions

  • Duplicate publication

  • Unethical research practices (e.g., lack of required approvals)

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest that significantly affect interpretation

Retraction notices will remain permanently available and will be clearly linked to the retracted article. The original article will not be removed from the journal archive, but it will be clearly marked as Retracted to ensure transparency and to protect the integrity of the scientific record.

Expression of Concern

In cases where an investigation is ongoing and a final decision cannot yet be reached, JoGRaV may issue an Expression of Concern. This notice alerts readers to potential issues regarding the reliability or ethics of the published work while the matter is being reviewed.

Investigation Process

When concerns are raised about a published article, the editorial office may:

  1. Contact the corresponding author for clarification and supporting evidence

  2. Request raw data or additional documentation if necessary

  3. Consult reviewers, editorial board members, or external experts

  4. Follow COPE procedures to ensure a fair and transparent investigation

JoGRaV may also contact the authors’ affiliated institutions when appropriate.

Author and Reader Responsibilities

Authors are expected to promptly notify the journal if they discover significant errors in their published work. Readers are also encouraged to report suspected errors, plagiarism, or misconduct to the editorial office. All reports will be handled confidentially and professionally.

Through this correction and retraction policy, JoGRaV ensures that published research remains trustworthy, ethically produced, and scientifically reliable, while supporting transparency and accountability in geothermal and volcanology research.
