Focus and Scope

Journal of Geothermal Research and Volcanology (JGRV) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in geothermal sciences and volcanology. The journal serves as an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to disseminate original research, reviews, and technical studies related to geothermal systems, volcanic processes, and their interactions with the Earth’s lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere.

JGRV aims to promote high-quality scientific contributions that enhance the understanding of geothermal resources, volcanic hazards, subsurface processes, and sustainable energy development, particularly in tectonically active regions. The journal welcomes contributions employing field observations, laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and integrated multi-disciplinary approaches.

The Journal of Geothermal Research and Volcanology publishes original research articles, review papers, short communications, and case studies covering, but not limited to, the following topics:

Geothermal Science and Engineering

  • Geothermal systems and reservoirs

  • Geothermal exploration and resource assessment

  • Hydrothermal alteration and fluid–rock interaction

  • Geothermal geochemistry and isotope studies

  • Heat flow, thermal modeling, and subsurface temperature distribution

  • Sustainable geothermal energy development and utilization

Volcanology

  • Volcanic processes and magma dynamics

  • Volcano monitoring, hazard assessment, and risk mitigation

  • Volcanic gas emissions and degassing processes

  • Petrology, mineralogy, and geochemistry of volcanic rocks

  • Volcanic structures, calderas, and eruption histories

Integrated and Interdisciplinary Studies

  • Tectonics–volcanism–geothermal interactions

  • Geophysical methods in geothermal and volcanic studies

  • Remote sensing applications in geothermal and volcanic research

  • Numerical and conceptual modeling of geothermal–volcanic systems

  • Environmental and societal impacts of geothermal and volcanic activity

JGRV particularly encourages studies from volcanic arcs, rift zones, and geothermal fields worldwide, with special attention to emerging geothermal regions and developing countries.
