Withdrawal of Manuscript

The Journal of Geothermal Research and Volcanology (JoGRaV) understands that authors may occasionally request the withdrawal of a manuscript. However, manuscript withdrawal should be considered a serious decision and may only be permitted under specific circumstances.

Before Peer Review

Authors may request withdrawal of their manuscript before it enters the peer-review process. The request must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author, stating the reason for withdrawal. If the manuscript has not yet been sent to reviewers, the withdrawal will normally be processed without penalty.

During Peer Review

Once a manuscript has entered the peer-review stage, withdrawal requests must include a clear and valid justification. Because reviewers and editors invest time and effort in evaluating submissions, withdrawal during this stage is discouraged. The editorial office will review the request and determine whether it can be approved.

After Acceptance

Withdrawal of a manuscript after formal acceptance is strongly discouraged and will only be considered under exceptional circumstances, such as the discovery of serious errors or ethical concerns. In such cases, authors must provide detailed written explanations and supporting evidence.

After Publication

If a manuscript has already been published online or in print, it cannot be withdrawn. In cases involving serious errors, misconduct, or ethical violations, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Ethical Considerations

Submitting a withdrawal request after the manuscript has progressed substantially in the review or production process without valid reason may be considered unethical behavior. Authors are expected to ensure that they agree on submission before sending their manuscript to JoGRaV.

All withdrawal requests must be submitted formally by the corresponding author to the editorial office through the journal’s official communication channel. The decision to approve or reject a withdrawal request rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Through this policy, JoGRaV aims to maintain editorial integrity, respect the time and effort of reviewers and editors, and uphold responsible scholarly publishing practices.
